The Furnace
Youth Group at The Rooftop Gallery and Workshops
The Furnace, a Saturday Youth Group, has been set up with some school age students and volunteers from within Corby. We hope that we can further involve the schools, students who are doing their Duke of Edinburgh awards, The Northamptonshire Association of Youth Clubs, the Job Centre, the EADS (Employment and Disability Service) and Volunteer Bureau.
Projects
Ideas so far:
- Making and playing board games.
- Writers Group - to work alone and on individual projects. We would like willing writers to work with the other groups so that we develop our writing skills together and work together on projects.
- Develop group activities for younger children.
In running this project we hope that we can provide work experience in the following areas:
- Events Management - organising the opening events for exhibitions within the gallery space.
- Office Skills - keeping a record of our visitor statistics
- Reception - Talking to visitors and promoting activities
- Promotion - Marketing the gallery, studios, events, groups and artists. Doing radio interviews and creating promotional literature.
- Curators - putting the show together. Coming up with ideas for shows and finding participants.
- Graphic Designers and Photographers - Making posters, labels, artist statements, lists of work with prices, social media graphics.
- Musicians - we actively endorse local musicians by giving them the opportunity to play at opening events at the gallery.
- We are looking for people to create videos to promote the Rooftop Gallery and Workshops.
